Our projects
Our facility in Ieper demonstrates the Bio Blue model in full operation, from feedstock sourcing to renewable gas production and circular valorisation.
Building on this foundation, new projects are currently being developed to expand our circular energy platform.
Flagship: Bio Blue Ieper
Bio Blue Ieper is a pioneering biomethane facility in Flanders.
Operational since 2021, the plant was originally built as a biogas-to-electricity facility and later fully rebuilt and converted into a biomethane installation - a regional first.
In December 2023, the site injected its first biomethane molecules directly into the natural gas grid.
A capacity upgrade is planned for 2027, supported by an additional drying installation.

New state-of-the-art facility
Following the success of its operational site in Ieper, Bio Blue is taking the next ambitious step: the construction of Bio Blue Ghent I, a large-scale biomethane plant in the Port of Ghent.
Bio Blue Ghent I will be the largest biomethane project in Belgium. The location in the Port of Ghent offers strategic advantages: excellent logistical access, proximity to industrial customers, and easy supply of various waste streams from home and abroad.

Doubling our sustainable energy
Bio Blue Ghent I is only the beginning: a fully integrated second phase is planned to scale capacity and reinforce our position as a key biomethane player in Belgium.
Thanks to careful planning and infrastructure, the site in the port of Ghent has been designed with future expansion in mind. Bio Blue Ghent II can therefore be seamlessly integrated into the existing site, with shared logistics, infrastructure, and utilities.
The expansion includes doubling the digestion capacity of Bio Blue Ghent.
The port of Ghent is a strategic asset in this regard: excellent logistics connections allow organic waste streams to be efficiently transported from Belgium and neighbouring countries, while the proximity of industrial customers ensures short supply chains and a minimal carbon footprint.
Doubling capacity in Ieper: Bio Blue builds for the future
After years of growth and innovation, Bio Blue continues to invest in tomorrow’s sustainable energy. At our site in Ieper, we are preparing for an important next step: doubling our biomethane production in Ieperby building four additional digesters on the adjacent site.
With this expansion – Bio Blue Ieper II – our capacity will grow from 80 GWh today (with an increase to 100 GWh later in 2027) to 200 GWh per year by 2030. That is enough green gas to supply more than 57,000 Belgian households with energy every year.
